🌸 A Famous Cherry Blossom Spot in Northern Okinawa

The area around the ruins is now developed as Nago Castle Park, home to over 20,000 Kanhizakura cherry trees.
The Nago Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year from late January to early February — one of the earliest cherry blossom seasons in all of Japan!

🏰 The History of Nago Gusuku

Built around the 14th century by the Lord of Nago (Nago Aji), this hilltop castle once played a key role during the Ryukyu Kingdom era.
Unlike many castles, Nago Gusuku was a “earth castle” — made mostly of soil rather than stone walls, with moats and terraces (kuruwa) built into the hill.

Though little remains today, you can still see traces of old defense lines and enjoy panoramic views from the summit.
During the era of the “Three Kingdoms of Ryukyu,” it was an important local stronghold before the region was unified.
