Discover Fuzhou Garden in Naha: A Hidden Chinese-Style Oasis in Okinawa

When most travelers think of Okinawa, they imagine beaches and turquoise water. But right in the heart of Naha you can step into China without leaving Japan — Fuzhou Garden (福州園, Fukushūen), a serene Chinese-style garden opened in 1992 to celebrate the friendship between Naha and Fuzhou City.

The 8,500㎡ grounds feature ponds, waterfalls, stone bridges, and traditional pavilions that feel far removed from the city bustle. It’s a peaceful cultural stop between shopping on Kokusai Street and catching a ferry from Tomari Port.
