Just a 20-minute drive from Naha Airport, Itoman Gyomin Shokudo is a local favorite where you can enjoy fresh seafood caught right in Okinawa.
This popular restaurant is located in Itoman City, a port town known for its fishing heritage, and is especially busy with both local families and international tourists. We went early to avoid the crowd—and even then, there was already a line!
🌿 A Bright and Spacious Interior with Okinawan Vibes
The exterior features traditional Ryukyu limestone walls and lush greenery, giving you a warm, island welcome.
Inside, the restaurant is spacious and family-friendly with table seating, wood flooring, and tatami mat rooms—great for families with small children!
The sound of relaxing Sanshin (Okinawan string instrument) music fills the air, creating a laid-back and uniquely Okinawan dining atmosphere.

🎣 Choose Your Fish of the Day – “Imaiyu” Specials!
The signature dish here is “Imaiyu Butter-Yaki Teishoku” (¥1,680~).
“Imaiyu” means “fresh fish” in the Okinawan language, and the fish used is caught daily from the local seas.
Every day, the available fish options are written on a blackboard. Staff are happy to explain the characteristics of each fish—perfect if it’s your first time.
You can choose from 3 flavorful sauces:
- Green: Asa Seaweed Butter
- Red: Tofu-yo Butter (fermented tofu)
- Yellow: Ukon (turmeric) Butter
I chose the Green Asa Butter with “Umeiro” fish (half-size, ¥1,780). The fish was served on a sizzling hot plate—crispy on the outside, juicy inside. The umami-rich sauce pairs perfectly with the light taste of the white fish.

🍣 A Full Set Meal – Appetizers, Soup, and Dessert Included
Each meal comes with:
- Two daily appetizers
- Okinawan-style miso soup
- A side dish
- A small dessert
My appetizers featured pepper-grilled tuna and fresh tuna sashimi, served with salad, crispy chips, and a special “Shibire Soy Sauce” made with Japanese pepper. The mild numbing spice adds a whole new dimension!
🍮 Pick Your Dessert – Okinawan Sweets with a Japanese Twist
After a satisfying main course, you can choose from 3 desserts:
- Sanpin Tea Pudding (Jasmine tea)
- Black sesame ice cream with Kuzumochi
- Okinawan-style sweet red bean soup (Zenzai)
I chose the Sanpin Tea Pudding. It was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with a floral, refreshing jasmine aroma—ideal after a flavorful meal!

🏖️ Great for Tourists, Locals, and Families Alike
Despite the crowd, service was fast and smooth.
If you’re traveling in Okinawa, this is a must-try spot to experience local seafood in a relaxing yet vibrant setting.
Whether you’re a foodie, a family traveler, or simply love fresh fish, Itoman Gyomin Shokudo won’t disappoint.
